what type of snake is it!!?

ok there is a snake out side our house… we live in the southern highlands N.S.W.. the snake is only about 50cm long its a dark brown to black color and it has a fat body which cuts of to a thin tail quite suddenly.. umm…oh and it has a rounded head.. plz tell me i know we should expect snakes around here lol.. i would just like to know what this one is??

The only elapid (poisonous snake) in Australia with a rounded head is the death adder. They are generally not large snakes- so as far as size goes, it could be a death adder.
Snakes can really be difficult to identify on just appearance alone- sometimes the only way to tell them apart is to count the scales on the snake’s body. Pythons (non-venemous snakes) have long scales under their bellies, so they have less scales across them- elapids have short belly scales and a higher scale count.
Colour of the snakes can vary between species, so it can be difficult to tell a species from it’s colour.
If you feel you are at risk- I advise you to call up your local Park service (not sure what it is in NSW? Parks and Wildlife?) and enquire about a snake catcher. These professionals are pretty good at identifying species, and will know what snakes are local to your area.
