Vauxhall Corsa Gearbox, semi-automatic.?
A little help required please.
How does a semi-automatic gearbox on a Vauxhall Corsa (06 plate) differ from a standard manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox. The car has a gear lever the same as a conventional ‘manual’ gearbox yet the V5 document describes it as a semi-automatic gearbox.

I may have a potential problem. This is a car I am thinking of buying. I have driven it and it has a conventional gear stick and clutch pedal and doesn’t ‘appear’ to differ from any other ‘manual’ gearbox. However the HPI checks shows this as a ‘semi-automatic’ gearbox. I will check this out but if you or anybody else can offer further advice – this will be very much appreciated.
The vehicle model number from the HPI check has an S-A in it which I assume is for ‘semi-automatic’.

It is basically a manual but it doesn’t have a clutch pedal.
The gear selector will have an Auto setting, probably indicated by ‘A’ and a sequential manual, probably indicated by ‘M’ with ‘+’ and ‘-’ in front and behind the ‘M’.
In auto mode the car acts like an automatic with the gears changing when the engine speed requires it.
In manual mode the clutch is operated by electric motors, when you change gear. Starting in first, then moving the selector toward the ‘+’ selects second etc. To change down you simply move the selector toward the ‘-’ and it will change down. When stopping or slowing to a near halt it will select first at the appropriate road speed, even in manual.
